Each year at the Alpena Area Chamber of Commerce dinner, an area business or organization is recognized by MidMichigan Health Foundation’s Business Relations Committee for their leadership in promoting positive lifestyle choices and offering innovative health programs to their employees. Considering the conditions and challenges during COVID-19 pandemic, the Business Relations Committee felt it was imperative to honor a business or organization this year. “During this last year, COVID-19 has affected individuals as well as businesses. Understanding the restrictions placed on businesses during COVID-19, promoting and maintaining a healthy work environment is now more important than ever,” said Ann Diamond, Development Director at MidMichigan Health Center – Alpena.
“This year, we honor Clark Construction Company for their commitment to employee health and wellness,” said Diamond. “We received many excellent applications and I applaud all businesses that prevailed thru this pandemic. Clark Construction Company was selected because they excelled at providing personal employee support during unprecedented times.”
Clark offers their employees a plethora of health and wellness opportunities and actually increased their offering during the past year. Along with flu shots, first aid and CPR training, health club membership, smoking cessation programs and weight loss programs, just to name a few, they also incorporated emotional support services including a corporate Headspace account, MoveSpring challenges to encourage daily steps and activity, as well as increased virtual small groups and virtual social events. Their core values of competence, reliability, sincerity, and care have been embodied throughout their revised safety policies and their increased check-ins among team members shows they really look out for each other. “This approach to health, in and out of the workplace, is certainly supported by the Medical Center, and we are pleased to be able to acknowledge them for their exceptional initiatives,” Diamond said.
This marked the 26th year of presenting the Health Leadership Award to a deserving organization and the reception was held on June 9, 2021.
