75 Stories: Fred Gagnier, Regional Manager, Alpena

2021 marks the 75th Anniversary for Clark Construction Company. To celebrate, we’re using our employee’s voices to explain the impact Clark has made to ourselves, fellow teammates, communities, and clients. This is Fred’s story.

My 75 story is about how we opened our Alpena office, which is how I started my career with Clark.

Back in the late 1990s, I worked with Senior Vice President of Clark, Bobby LaLonde, when he was an  intern at a now defunct construction company.  We remained friends over the years so when we both attended a pheasant shoot during a holiday break in 2018, Bobby and I had an honest discussion about how things were going or rather not going well.

Then in January 2019, I reached out to Bobby again and we discussed work and one conversation led to another and we ended up discussing the possibility that a few former team members I worked with over the years would consider joining Clark and create an Alpena office.

Bobby invited me along with Craig Froggett to come to the Lansing office to discuss this potential new office. Craig and I sat with the executive team for a discussion and then approximately two weeks later, we had forged an agreement.

My first impressions of the Executive team which included Sam Clark, John Clark, Dave Reece, Bobby LaLonde were: “Wow, what an awesome, down to earth, friendly and professional group of people!”

They explained the values that Clark is built on: COMPETENT, RELIABLE, SINCERE and CARE, and I felt I had finally found my “forever” place of employment.

Two years later, I still have the same impression as my first!  Clark’s staff are down to earth, friendly, professional people all with common values that helps make this the best place to work!
