75 Stories: Sue Kohler

2021 marks the 75th Anniversary for Clark Construction Company. To celebrate, we’re using our employee’s voices to explain the impact Clark has made to ourselves, fellow teammates, communities, and clients. This is Sue’s story.

I began my career with Clark on September 5, 1995.  My first office was located in a construction trailer located behind the office on West St. Joe – Butch Marier and Randy Imhoff had an office in the same trailer.   I’m not sure when I moved into the office, but I do remember the winter was long and the parking lot slippery!

During those early years, I worked with Randy Jobin and Molly Clark in the newly formed Marketing Department.  When Molly left to manage our new Petoskey office, it was Randy and me tackling proposals and all else under the marketing umbrella.  In 2002, we moved to our new offices on Moores River Drive and our Marketing Department grew as did the proposal activity!  Our Department expanded to include Jodi Gomez, and later Zack Reed – we were a great team! There were some big “wins,” as well as some tough losses over the years.

Oldsmobile Stadium (home of the Lugnuts) was the first major project I remember. It was scheduled to complete for the spring opener and Lansing was abuzz with excitement . I was one of the fortunate ones who attended the opening game – it was a very cold spring day and those aluminum stadium seats were very cold.  Actually, the Stadium was the site of Clark’s 50th anniversary and it was a memorable celebration!

I appreciated the family atmosphere and teamwork during my 17 years with Clark. We worked hard, celebrated our victories, and moved on from losses. I learned so much during my career at Clark and made some lasting friendships.

Congratulations, Clark Team, on celebrating 75 years of building success!
