The Fountain Walk, now called Twelve Mile Crossing at Fountain Walk, is part of a growing trend in retail developments known as a Lifestyle Center. It is the sixth largest development of its kind in the United States at a total of 737,000 sq.ft. situated on 80 acres. Along with the Village of Rochester Hills, it is one of Michigan’s first true Lifestyle Centers. Fountain Walk is anchored by the Great Indoors, a 155,000 sq.ft. upscale home furnishings store. The Center also features a Galyan’s sporting goods store, a 20-screen movie theater and six to eight full-service restaurants amid a design described as a theatrical mix of flags, outdoor fountains and other flourishes.
The flashy design features unique rotundas and spectacular design elements. It is situated so shoppers can actually drive through the center on its own streets. Just like any other downtown area, patrons can park right in front of a shop to pick up a few items. Visitors are also encouraged to make a day of it and spend 3-4 hours shopping, dining or enjoying the new Van’s skateboard park or Emagine, the new stadium-seat style movie theatre. The new movie theatre features 18 screens with two 500-seat theaters and an 18-station concession stand that serves cocktails along with the usual popcorn and other treats. And all of these shops, restaurants and entertainment venues are set amid brick paved roads and sidewalks with a central fountain and several smaller fountains, landscaping treatments and benches.
