A challenging renovation project involved a vertical expansion, introducing a 215,000 sq.ft. second floor to an existing shopping mall. This required the installation of 120 supporting columns for the new level. To ensure uninterrupted mall operations during construction, work was conducted between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m., involving the nightly relocation and return of tenants’ merchandise before the mall opened.
The project’s complexity earned Clark Construction Company the prestigious national Motorola/AGC “Build America” award. Additional work encompassed a connected parking structure, along with a 120-foot, covered pedestrian walkway designed to provide customers with easy access from the parking ramp to the retail destination while sheltered from the elements.
