Why do you like being in construction industry?
Compared to other industries, construction is less abstract. A building can only be built a handful of ways, and it’s our job to build it as the design team & owner specified/intended.
Why are women successful leaders in this industry?
As technology progresses and clients have higher expectations, it’s imperative that all people involved in the construction process are communicating and coordinating their work efficiently. It’s no longer, “every man for themselves,” and/or construction has gotten a lot more complex as buildings have gotten more efficient, so one person cannot do it all. I think this is why women are great and successful leaders in this (and many other) industries. Women tend to have a lot of experience managing and juggling multiple things, including responding to the emotional needs of many. It gives us a leg up.
Advice that you have for women entering the A/E/C.
Maintain a “lifelong learner” attitude, and then a “lifelong mentor” attitude as well.
